If you want to look at getting value for your dollar, you won't need to look much further than 93 Brand's Hooks kimono. With the 2.0 edition, you get the fabrics, fit, and quality that we've come to expect from the East Coast fight company, plus updated graphics and colorways. They've also added thickness and width to the jacket's collar, making it tougher for your opponents to grab chokes and helps the top keep its shape after repeated washes.
Built from 425 GSM High-Tech Pearl Weave with ample reinforcements and minimal yet tasteful patchwork. The Hooks' trousers are also quite simple, featuring only one patch (sewn at the left hip). While the graphics and patches may be minimal, 93 Brand did not skimp on the Gi's construction itself. Some noteworthy specs include full-length knee reinforcements (coverage and protection regardless of how bizarre your scrambles may be), a cord drawstring, and four drawstring loops. The interior seams that are most vulnerable and susceptible to fraying are protected by a soft, cotton taping.
93 Brand's standard BJJ model delivers a surprising level of comfort and quality considering its impressive price point. Excellent for day-to-day training at any experience level.
What is the max waist size for 93brand aoh gis?
I really enjoy this Gi, it is more comfortable than my Tatami Estillo 5.0 and the Fuji Gi I demoed at my academy. As far as fit, I am 6'4'' and 195lb with long arms (6'6''). I'm an awkward size for Gi's since the typical ones for my height are very baggy in the pants and stomach. The A2L after shrinking is a great tailored fit. the only complaint I have is the sleeves (once shrunk) aren't quite loose enough to meet IBJJF restrictions. (2" vs. 2.75").
Rollmore service was great, I tried the Regular Brand 23 A3L and returned it to get the hooks, no problems.
Will you guys ever have this color in other sizes?
Also could I get a size recommendation for a 5'8 130 lbs?
I have a lean athletic build and prefer a slimmer fit.
So, I am 5'10" about 155-160lb. Average built. and A1L fit me perfect. Out of the bag, the gi was super big, the sleeve was maybe about 2-3 inch to long from my wrist but after a 2 warm washes and about 30-45 min in the dryer *warm* fit me super real nice! Cold wash and hand dry afterward and you're good to go! Gi is also Comp Legal. Great product, and will future customer for 93 brand gi!
I have to say, i was a little disappointed with this gi. I own the original Hooks gi and it is my favorite gi by far. Unfortunately, this is not the same cut as the original and the sleeves were way too long. The original fit me perfect right out of the bag but this one was about 5 inches too long on each arm. If it weren't for the sleeve length this gi would have been great.
I just received this gi and had the chance to use it twice now, It is my first gi and I just started bjj about 4 months ago. I am really loving it so far and it does get attention for being so simple at first glance as previously stated, it just looks rad. I had been using a friends gameness and Fuji combo gi and am probably jaded since its my first gi but I really prefer the 93brand quality and style.
I am a 5'11" woman who is thin and not very curvy and this gi is awesome!! i originally bought a Fenom Gi because they are for women but my torso is so long it didn't fit right and I didn't have enough curve to fill out any of it.
93s pants fit perfect and was able to shrink the top just enough. There is such a difference in rolling with a gi that fits perfect. I will definitely be buying another!
I owned a Fuji Summerweight and a Tatami Nova before getting around to purchasing a 93 Brand Hooks gi. I wish I had experienced the comfort, style and fit of 93 Brand first as I would not have bought the others. This is serious bang for your buck -- incredibly well constructed gi with incredibly comfortable pearl weave. The pants are soft cotton. It may look minimal from first glance but the details turns heads -- the contrast stitching, the yellow drawstring and the gray trims and belt loops. Wonderful value. When I eventually replace my white and blue gis, they will both be 93 Brand, based on this experience.
If there is a con, it's the tricky sizing. I'm 5'5" and 190 lbs. I'm between sizes. Based on my tight fits with both Fuji and Tatami, I thought to size up to A3. While hot water washes/dries did shrink it a bit, I couldn't get the sleeves/torso to shrink up proportionally. Thankfully, 93 Brand produces A2H (and Roll More's return policy helps). After a few washes/dries, it fits like a glove.
Dude thank for the review. I was waiting for this. At the last minute I decided to go with Fuji Summereeight instead of Hooks 2. I'm not disappointed tho as the summmerweights fits like a glove. But I am always in the market for another gi and this review is helpful as I already have my radar on the Hooks. How's the weight on it ? Would you consider it a lightweight gi although it is not marketed as one? I dislike heavy gi's and prefer lightweights gi's because of the
heavy sweat/lack of climate control in gyms.
I think I narrowed my next gi selection down to this. My questions is sizing. I am 5'5" 145lbs (short arms) and normally wear A1 which does fit but the pants and legs end up a bit long on me. I have to keep washing to shrink. I am wondering if I should go for A0 and limite heat when washing/drying?...Thanx
As long as you *always* cold wash and hang dry, then yes I think A0 will work. I have 2 teammates who are 5'4" and 5'5" and 135 lbs, their A0 works great and they follow the cold/hang dry method.
